Dear friends —
Please note: there is not meeting this weekend. I am looking forward to being with you next week.
1. From the Lectionary
Due to the constraints of time, when we are considering the lectionary texts for the given Sunday, we are usually:
a - praying the psalm for the week, and
b -in dialogue over the Gospel portion—
c - leaving the epistle and reading from the Torah and Prophets in some negligence.
In a departure from the usual I would offer for your contemplation these openings words from the Genesis reading:
Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph.
— Genesis 45:3
Here, amongst a tangle of past and very real harm and trauma—we see Joseph revealing himself to his brothers. I am caught up wondering about revealing in our own lives, and some questions that go with it—
- do you feel seen?
- when are you feel seen does that bring vulnerability?
- what sort of circumstances must exist where a sibling must reveal themselves to their siblings, “it is me!”?
